Like every other aspect of nonprofit management, volunteer management brings with it some complicated and delicate issues that must be addressed. How do you fire, demote,or promote a volunteer? How do you ask a volunteer to retire? What do you do if they just won't go? Learn how to engage in these crucial conversations with your volunteers.
Speaker biography for Jennifer J. Rusch
Jennifer Rusch is a professional consultant, providing marketing services, strategic planning, professional writing, and volunteer program support. She works primarily in the nonprofit sector and has a passion for capacity building in the field of volunteer management.
Before becoming a work-at-home-mom, she was Executive Director of the Volunteer Center of Cedar Valley in Waterloo, Iowa, and an Assistant Director of Alumni Relations at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Rusch is an active volunteer at both the local and state level. From 2010 to 2012, she served as Chapter Co-Leader of the International Cesarean Awareness Network of Northeast Iowa and worked with her fellow volunteers to establish the nonprofit as one of the premier chapters in the world. Rusch is a former commissioner with the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service and has served on numerous commission committees. Her current volunteer passions include the slightly less ambitious undertakings of supporting her sons’ elementary school parent group and serving her local Moms of Preschoolers (MOPS) group.
She has spoken to numerous audiences on the subjects of volunteer program planning, recruitment and retention, and strategic planning. Rusch strives to convey to each audience her belief that we solve our communities’ toughest problems through volunteerism.
