Ready Set School 

Date: Friday, August 9th, 2024.

Time: 12:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Location: Johnson County Fair Grounds, 4261 Oak Crest Hill Rd SE, Iowa City, IA 52246. Building C

What is available: School supplies, Dental and eye screenings, Vaccinations, and Hair Cuts.

We need your help to make this event a success!

As summer continues, we're turning our thoughts to the upcoming school year and what our community's students need to thrive.

Join us for this collaborative School Supply Distribution and School Readiness Fair for Johnson and Washington County students entering Kindergarten through 12th grade. 

We are still in need of many volunteers and school supplies for this event. If you would like to help, please see below for options to Host a Drive, Purchase Supplies through our Online Drive, Volunteer for the Event, or Make a Financial Contribution. 

This event is hosted by United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties, The Salvation Army of Johnson County, Neighborhood Centers, and Big Brother Big Sisters of Johnson County.

How Can I Help?

Many hands make light work and it will take many hands to serve 1,200 students at the August 9th event! Sign up today to lend a hand and volunteer for Ready Set School. We have several positions open for volunteering in a variety of areas for all abilities. 

Please use the "Notes" section of the donation form to indicate the donation is for "Ready Set School".

Supply Lists

Host a supply drive within your workplace, church group, family, or amongst neighbors. We expect to serve over 1,200 students at Ready Set School and every donated item will make a difference for local students in need.

You may review the school supply list here, though we highly encourage groups to limit collections to 1-3 specific items. This will help make our drive more effective and efficient, and ensure we collect all needed items.

If you are interested in hosting a drive, please reach out to Emily Meister at Emily.Meister@unitedwayjwc.org  to learn which supplies are most needed at this time. We will send you a poster to use with a list of the items your group will collect.

All supply donations must be collected and delivered by Friday, July 26, 2024. Donations can be dropped off at the Salvation Army office in Iowa City at 1116 S Gilbert Ct.
